Working the Fields
From hops to tulips the farming heritage of the Midlands. With a large and diverse agricultural heritage farming appears throughout the collection. The earliest film on the subject currently held is from 1912 and shows farmers at the Melton Mowbray horse show. Farm life regularly crops up in home movies with a country walk or drive often interrupted with a quick shot of a horse drawn plough working the fields as had been the practise for centuries. Regional variations abound from the flower farms of Lincolnshire to the asparagus of Worcestershire and the grasslands of Leicestershire.
