The first item is about the invasive plant species of Japanese knotweed. Tony Francis talks to water bailiff Douglas at Lake Savay in Buckinghamshire. Shots of Dougal using flames to try to destroy the plant (from an earlier programme). We then see how the fire didn't stop the plant resprouting. Laura Martin then shows how to make jam and a crumble from the rhubarb like plant.
Continuing the regular item about Midland follies Tony looks at the Scarrington horseshoe monument in the Nottinghamshire village. The pile of horse shoes was begun in 1945 by the local blacksmith George Flinders (a b/w sill is used) and became controversial in the 1970s when he tried to sell it to American tourists. Tony talks to blacksmith Gordon Gill who used to work for George Flinders and Flinders' daughter Mavis Stinson. We also see the Scarrington Pinfold which is an enclosure where stray animals used to be kept. We also see Gordon Gill at work in his forge at Aslockton where he is trying to build up a new horseshoe pile.
Next at Chipping Campden Wendy Nelson meets stonemason Richard Podd who is being shown around St Catherine's Church by Father John Brennan who points out the various pieces of stone that need repairing. Views of Stanley's Quarry on Broadway Ridge where the distinctive Cotswold stone is quarried. We then see Richard in his workshop carving stone and also see items in his home at Little Compton and hear from his wife Sharon. Also stills of his work and views of the market cross at Stow on the Wolds which was repaired by Richard.
For the final item Wendy Leavesley meets 95-year-old Bridget Scott who is the oldest hunt follower in the country. Wendy is anti fox hunting and talks to Bridget about the fascination she has with the country sport. She was a master of hounds in the 1920s. B/w archive of fox hunting and shots of the South Herefordshire Hunt at Hoarwithy village and riding across country. Bridget follows in her car with Wendy.
