Description

We begin with a small service taking place at the site chose for the new cathedral (in 1954?). We cut to a newspaper board giving the news that the Bishop of Coventry was dead (Dr Neville Gorton - December 1955). We see the flag on the old Cathedral flying at half mast and views of the Bishop's funeral. We then see the new Bishop of Coventry Cuthbert Bardsley inspecting early stages in the construction and laying a stone himself followed by views of his enthronement (5 May 1956). We then see the unveiling of Saint Michael; the installation of the Christ in Glory tapestry at an event held on 24 June 1960. The reel ends with further shots of construction including a shot of workers stopping to drink tea.
