Description

This reel opens with views of a service for the consecration of the Chapel of the Cross - the first service that was held in the new Coventry Cathedral on the night of 31 December 1958. We then see the visit to the site by Princess Alexandra on 4 November 1958. The architect Basil Spence is also seen visiting as the new building takes shape. We then see the wedding of Gillian Spence and Anthony Blee at the Cathedral site in February 1959. Miss Spence is the daughter of the architect Basil Spence. The construction work continues with scenes shot during the spring and summer of 1959 including large stone blocks being lifted into place and work on the roof.
