Tony Francis introduces the programme on location. The first report continues a series of features following the story of Shirley and Kelvyn Horsman who have moved from London to the remote hamlet of Trafalgar in the Forest of Dean. We look back at the story so far, and the couple talk about how they have settled into their new life. Shirley has a job working with older people and we see Kelvyn driving a digger as he works on a project to create a fishing lake on his land. Wendy Nelson also talks to teenage son Oliver who has settled in at Gloucester Cathedral School. Teacher Richard Murray is also interviewed, as is Oliver’s girlfriend. Shots of Oliver playing in the school cricket team.
The next report from Anna Soubry is about retired railway worker Roland Hoggard from Thurgarton in Nottinghamshire who collects and restores vintage clocks. We see Roland in his workshop with his collection of antique railway clocks. We then follow him as he journeys into Lincolnshire to maintain a number of village church clocks. He cycles to Thurgarton station, boards the train and gets off at Swinderby. Shots of him cycling past the closed RAF Swinderby and on to the village of Aubourn where he carries out work on the church clock. Next, he goes to South Hykham and examines the church clock. Finally we see him back in Thurgarton village where we see the ruins of the local priory and the village church.
The final report is about the centenary of the distinctive breed of cattle, the Lincolnshire Red. Tony meets 84-year-old Lawrence ‘Lol’ Bembridge who has a herd of Lincolnshire Reds on his farm at Timberland. He talks about how his father started the herd in 1908 and we see b/w stills of the animals at shows and see his collection of rosettes and see the animals in their field. Twenty miles away we meet fellow farmer and show rival, Jenny Birt who is preparing her Lincolnshire Red bull for the Lincolnshire Show. Views of the Lincolnshire Show at Lincoln, the judging of the Lincolnshire Reds and the society dedicated to the breed celebrating their centenary.
