Edwin Edwards owns a small holding at Shawbury in Shropshire. The film shows him on his land tending to his animals and telling anecdotes about his forty year struggle to survive. He describes himself as a peasant which he defines as someone who will get a living where no-one else can. We also see him looking after cattle that use a Nissen hut as a barn and he describes how his family used to live in the hut. He talks about the changes during the time running the small holding including the death of his wife. There are also brief views of Shawbury and several of the scenes are accompanied by low flying military aircraft from the nearby RAF Shawbury.
