Description

Wincey Willis begins her exploration of Midlands nature reserves by visiting Coombes Valley which is near Leek in Staffordshire. She tours the reserve with warden Maurice Waterhouse visiting a bird hide and later at dusk the pair spot badgers. Next at Rutland Water Wincey meets warden Tim Appleton at Lyndon reserve. They look at a wildflower meadow and we see a school party pond dipping. Wincey and Tim also visit a bird hide and view water birds. The next site is Plants Brook, an inner city reserve at Erdington in Birmingham. Wincey is given a tour by Chris Bains of the Urban Wildlife Group. Finally she visits Lathkill Dale in Derbyshire. We see Wincey parking at Over addon and walking through the Peak District valley with Martyn Howat who points out features of the Lathkill river and shows Wincey the rare Jacob's ladder flower.
