Description

Programme introduced by Zia Mohyeddin. The first item is a film report from Peter Emina about the 13-year-old painter Wayne St Clair from Oxford. We first see Wayne sketching in Brown’s restaurant in the city. Interview with Wayne’s tutor, Andy McDonnell about his talents which have seen him put on several shows and sell examples of his work. Peter Emina chats to Wayne and takes him to the Ashmolean Museum to look at the art on display.

Next in the studio Mita Hackett reviews the new film Maya Miriga (the Mirage) which has been a hit at the London Film Festival. During her review we see clips from the film.

The next studio item is a musical performance from the jazz saxophonist Gail Thompson. Finally Peter Emina reviews the latest music books including titles about UB40, Jimi Hendrix and soul music. Archive film clips of Hendrix, and James Brown as well as a James Brown and Afrika Bambaataa video which forms a competition for viewers to win the books. Under the credits there are clips of the next Here and Now on 4 programme which is about the sarod player Amjad Khan.
