Programme introduced by Zia Mohyeddin. The first item is a studio performance from the Indian classical musician Ustad Salamat Ali Khan who sings a traditional raga. Next on film Paula Ahluwalia meets the civil rights campaigner Toni Cade Bambara from Harlam in New York who talks about her writing and reads extracts from her novels. Next on film Paula talks to the Australian civil rights campaigner Faith Bandler who talks about Aboriginal rights and reads an extract from her book Wacvie.
