Description

The Job Club program provides advice and training to the unemployed in matters such as writing a CV and interview techniques as well as a place where those seeking work can go to meet and exchange ideas.

The film opens with clips from a COI advertisement for Job Club. We then cut to the reality of Cannock Job Club where Job Club leader Julie Orrillard is opening a new session.

Throughout the film we meet members of the club and they are seen taking part in job seeking activities as well as at home. The talk about what it is like to be unemployed and their hopes for the future.

Club member Jeff is seen singing with his rock band; Debbie is looking for secretarial work; David Cotterill has qualifications but is seen struggling with a telephone exercise; Carl discusses his problems with crime; Robin is an electrician who has had to leave work due to transport problems; and Peter who just wants to play his guitar is seen in a 'fantasy' scene in which he plays guitar in the back of a Rolls Royce.

At the end of the film a voice over provides an update about the participants.
