Programme presented by Jon Lander. Central Lobby has polled voters in two marginal constituencies: West Bromwich East and Nottingham South and found that both would become Labour seats with larger majorities if an election was called. Reg Harcourt looks at the make-up of both seats. We see a the M5 motorway joining the M6 at West Bromwich, a view of West Bromwich town centre, tracking shots past houses and a library shot of the current Labour MP Peter Snape in a railway signal box. Next in Nottingham we see the current Conservative MP Martin Brandon-Bravo walking across Old Market Square, an exterior view of the Council House, exterior of the John Players factory, a sign for the Boots factory and an establishing shot of Raleigh. We then see views of large houses in Wollaton and tracking shots past council houses on the Clifton estate. In the studio Jon Lander talks to political analyst Steve Bristow about the poll result and Reg Harcourt talks to Peter Snape, Martin Brandon-Bravo and the Alliance MP Alex Carlile.
Next Rob Whitehouse reports from the news desk. Items covered include news that Nottinghamshire miners are voting to decide whether to leave the NUM (library shot of Sherwood Colliery) and a still of the Mansfield MP Don Concannon who has been injured in a car crash. Next in the studio Jon Lander uses graphics to predict the policies that will feature in the forthcoming Queen's speech before Reg Harcourt wraps up the programme with clips of reports that will feature in this news series of Central Lobby. We see brief clips of Joe Ashton MP, a report about alcohol, Neil Kinnock in a pop video and an animal rights item.
