Description

The disc jockey Pete Murray narrates a film which features many of the attractions in Coventry and its surrounding environs including Warwick and Kenilworth.
We begin with views of the various ways in which visitors can arrive in Coventry by road, air, rail or canal. We then look at the history of the city including the use of old stills and views of ways in which the old word Mercia has survived. There are shots of Ford's Hospital, St John's Church, Bond's Hospital, Cheylesmore Manor, Spon Street and the Guildhall. Industry is considered next with brief views of Daw Mill Colliery, veteran and vintage cars from the Museum of British Road Transport, Rolls Royce, Carbodies, Massey Ferguson and GEC. After shots of speedway racing we visit the Midland Air Museum, brief shot of the Herbert Museum and Art Gallery followed by the University of Warwick and Coventry Lanchester Polytechnic. Returning to history the film then considers Warwick Castle, Kenilworth Castle, Lady Godiva in history including a view of the statue in Broadgate. This is followed by views of the shopping precinct and indoor market. Cocktails at the Hotel Leofric are the next stop which links into shots of the Milk Race and then a police passing out parade. Brief shots of the rugby club and football ground are followed by entertainment venues including the Belgrade Theatre. A final round up shows us the British Equestrian Centre at Stoneleigh, people playing golf, swimming, views of the ring road before we end with a visit to Coventry Cathedral and Holy Trinity Church.
