Programme presented by Tony Francis.
In a film report Paul Martin looks back to 1948 the year in which George Orwell wrote '1984'.
Includes a large amount of archive film showing ordinary life and industry in the immediate post war period. These shots are intercut with an interview with miner Alan Moss from Eastwood in Nottinghamshire who reminisces. Also featured is Alan's son, Malcolm Moss who does not work down the pit and has managed to climb the social scale.
In the studio Francis interviews Doctor Penny Pearce, a lecturer in law at Nottingham Trent University, about the warnings of Orwell and Government controls.
In another film report Rob Golding investigates the world of 'glamour' photography with the Birmingham calendar model Geri Perry. Perry, who is a former BT directory enquiries worker, is seen posing for photographs in a garage in Redditch and is interviewed about her career.
Back in the studio Francis and Golding wrap up the programme with some news based jokes.
