Description

The joint Nottingham Corporation and National Coal Board project is known as the District Heating System. Household rubbish collected in Nottingham is mixed with coal and burnt in an incinerator close to London Road in the city (known as the Eastcroft Incinerator, although that name does not feature in this report). The heat generated is piped to the Victoria Shopping Centre and the new St Ann's housing development. Reg Harcourt interviews John Haslam, Director of Technical Services and provides a voice over describing the features of the system.
We see: refuse collectors at work on the streets of St Ann's; the exterior of the incinerator; pipes under London Road to a heating station; construction work on houses on the St Ann's estate; the local parish church - St Ann With Emmanuel; and a high angle shot of Nottingham including St Ann's which was shot from the top of the Victoria Centre.
