Description

The film opens with shots of 1950s housing on Aikman Avenue in Leicester (New Parks area). These houses are contrasted with a new development of flats on the Rowlatts Hill estate in the city. The film shows how chimneys are concealed within the construction of the Rowlatts Hill tower blocks. Heat is supplied from a central boiler house which is shown as are the network of pipes and the radiators in each room. This is known as a district heating system. We also see shots of the estate and children playing outside the flats. In Leicester city centre we see shops, the clock tower and a tracking shot of a street in the city from a moving car. Finally we see construction work underway on the new St Matthew's estate in Leicester.
