The first item concerns Tony and Heather King who are both disabled. Heather is six months pregnant and the couple have recently been told by social services that they will have to give up their baby when it is born. In a film insert we see Tony and Heather at home and Heather out shopping (a newspaper cutting shown on screen reveals that they are from Keynsham near Bristol although this is not mentioned on the programme). Andy Craig then interviews Tony and Heather in the studio about their story.
The second item concerns the pressures faced by young people who are hoping to become professional dancers. In the studio we see a performance from 'A Chorus Line' (which is currently on at the Alexandra Theatre in Birmingham). Sue Jay then chairs a debate which includes contributions from: Margaret Braithwaite and her 14-year-old daughter Sarah Braithwaite who hopes to become a dancer; Deborah Browning, former student of the Royal Ballet; Ann French, whose daughter committed suicide; Doctor Barry Grimaldi, who is a dance medicine specialist; Bridget Crowley, who speaks about training; Graham Mulvern, Production Supervisor for 'A Chorus Line'; dancers Caroline O'Connor, Samantha Hughes and Peter Barry; and 'A Chorus Line' Producer Nick Ranceford-Hadley.
The third debate examines the proposal that pub landlords should be held responsible for drinkers committing drink-drive offences. Reg Harcourt interviews the Americans Norma Phillips from Mothers Against Drunk Drivers; and Donald McCormack of the Holiday Inn chain. He then opens up the debate and there are contributions from: Nicholas Lloyd, Managing Director of Everards; Graham Buxton from the Campaign Against Drinking and Driving; Anthony Beaumont-Dark, Conservative MP for Selly Oak; Reg Jackson-Cox who is a landlord; Sid Kilbey, Social Club Chairman; and Peter Coulson, the legal editor for 'Publican' magazine.
The programme ends with another live performance from 'A Chorus Line' (under captions).
