Notes

The Bangladesh Liberation War broke out on 26 March 1971 when the Pakistani Army launched Operation Searchlight against Bengal, which was demanding that Pakistan recognise the results of the 1970 election or allow eastern Pakistan to separate from west Pakistan.

Operation Searchlight resulted in large-scale atrocities being commited by Pakistan, hence the demonstration at Edgbaston in June 1971.

India entered the war on 3 December 1971 and Pakistan's defences collapsed on 16 December. Bangladesh was subsequently recognised as an independent state.
