Description

Mr Sharma is a Labour councillor representing the St Peter's ward on Wolverhampton Borough Council. He was born in India and came to Britain in 1960 as a child not able to speak English. He now runs a local engineering firm after graduating from Aston University. His route into local politics was via the Community Relations Council. We see him walking along streets in his ward with the lights of the Molineux football ground visible in the background. Reg Harcourt interviews him about his role and why he wants to help the community. We also hear the comments from two other local councillors: Mordecai James and John Bird. Mr Sharma is also seen talking to two tenants in his ward and there are shots of members of the Asian community on the street in Wolverhampton and partially demolished housing which is making way for an extension to Wolverhampton Polytechnic.
