We open with high angle views of Old Market Square and Nottingham Council House followed be views in the square including children feeding the pigeons.
The next section is a point of view shot from a vintage car driving through Nottingham. We travel up Market Street passing the Theatre Royal and County Hotel, down King Street and along South Parade passing Market Square (trolley buses are visible making this pre 1967). We then continue with a view driving along the Victoria Embankment. This is followed by shots of the war memorial and gardens. Back in the car we then drive in the other direction along Victoria Embankment approaching the Turney leather factory. Next we drive over Trent Bridge (the Bridgford Hotel is under construction). We then see an establishing shot of the Trent Bridge Inn and views of cricket being played at Trent Bridge (a league match between Nottinghamshire v Leicestershire played on 19 August 1973).
After a shot of a swan with cygnets on the Grantham Canal at West Bridgford we see a light aircraft at Tollerton airfield (from the Sherwood Flying Club) followed by aerial views of the city, River Trent, Clifton Bridge and Trent Bridge. Next we see views of Wollaton Park including the deer and winter scenes of sledging with Wollaton Hall visible in the background. This is followed by ice skating on the frozen lake at Highfields Park and summer shots of the park and Nottingham University grounds (and a shot of traffic on University Boulevard and a brief view of the pleasure boat on the lake).
We then cut to London Road and a view of the Sir John Franklin pub followed by the exterior of the Navigation Inn on Wilford Street and a trolley bus on Bath Street. The next section shows construction work for office buildings along Maid Marian Way as well as views of the Salutation Inn, Newdigate House and Plumtree House which leads into shots around the Glasshouse Street development (c1969) and the roads through the lower end of Hockley (including a shot of Woolworths).
Next we see buildings in the Lace Market (including the part demolished St Mary's Theatre) and a shot of the Old Angel pub, Stoney Street and St Mary's church and the streets around Weekday Cross including a shot of the High Pavement Chapel. An exterior of the Technical College on Burton Street is followed by the Playhouse Theatre (and b/w shots of the opening in 1963 featuring Lord Snowdon and Peter Ustinov).
After a brief shot of the canal and the Navigation Inn we then return to the River Trent with views taken from a police boat passing under Trent Bridge and then Holme Lock and the sluice gates. This is followed by shots of the Duke of Edinburgh emerging from a helicopter that has landed in a park and being driven away (commentary says Highfields Park but it has been confirmed that it is playing fields on Wilford Lane shot on his visit of 4 June 1964). We then see a shot of a Shipstone brewery dray along a street. This is followed by views of a miniature railway operated by the Nottingham Society of Model and Experimental Engineers in the park on Valley Road. We then leave the city to visit Eastwood (a short b/w section of miners is spliced in here). There are views of houses associated with D.H. Lawrence, the Three Tuns pub, the headstock of Brinsley Colliery and Moorgreen Reservoir.
We then see the South Notts Quorn hunt in Keyworth village (looks 1950s). This cuts to shots of the Major Oak tree in Sherwood Forest including people dressed in Robin Hood costumes. Establishing shots of the Theatre Royal (with a sign for 'Who Goes Bare' which is likely to be a 1968 show), Empire Palace Theatre and Mechanics Institute (with a sign for Tom Jones) are followed by exterior views of the Raleigh factory, Boots factory (and offices on Station Street) and John Players. The next section is an extract from a John Players commercial film.
We then see the opening of the 1965 Goose Fair by the Lord Mayor of Nottingham Alderman William Derbyshire and night shots of the fairground. Bonfire night is shown with boys collecting a penny for the guy, building a bonfire and shots of it burning. A short section of traffic driving in fog leads into an intertitle 'Nottingham Noel' and shots of a Christmas tree in Market Square, night views of shop fronts with neon signs, shoppers in the Central Market and a large department store. The Christmas tree in Market Square with Griffin and Spalding visible behind cuts to a final shot of a home Christmas tree and a boy playing with a small train set.
