Description

The reel appears to show two visits. The first is to Belgium and includes shots of a memorial to the French pilot Georges Guynemer at Poelkapelle, views of the Canadian cemetery at St Julien and shots of preserved First World War trenches. We then see an establishing shot of the Cloth Hall at Ypres followed by further views of a British cemetery. We are then on board a ship leaving Ostend and see views of the homeward journey across the Channel.

The second trip is a coach tour of France. It begins in a city with shots of a Second World War French resistance memorial. From a moving vehicle we see a sign for Douai and then visit a British First World War cemetery. Further shots of cemeteries follow and a large group gathered next to the war memorial in Arras town centre. We then visit the cemetery at Ecoust St Mein before seeing views of the Armistice Museum beginning with a statue of Marshall Foch at Compiègne. The next cemetery visited is at Foncquevillers before we end with another visit to preserved trenches (some shots have the lens partially obscured).
