Description

We see aerial views of Pitsford Reservoir in Northamptonshire. Terry Thomas interviews the warden of the reservoir George Wood about bird watching at the site and then talks to angler Peter Wheat who has brought along a collection of fossils. To show the different types of fishing that can be done at reservoirs we then see trout fishing at Draycote reservoir in Warwickshire and Terry and Bob Church fishing for pike at Stanford reservoir in Northamptonshire. Overstocking can be a problem which is overcome at Grafham reservoir in Cambridgeshire by dredging the fish out and clubbing the pike to death. Next we see Tommy Wadsworth fishing at Daventry reservoir followed by a trout competition at Draycote which is won by Tony Wadsworth. Terry then visits Empingham in Rutland where a very large reservoir is now under construction. We see earth movers in action and Terry talks to Mr Langford of Anglian Water; Peter Tomlinson, the chair of the company's fisheries committee and the chief engineer. We also see views of the church at Empingham, a caravan site for workers on the project, a Saxon burial ground and archaeological finds as well as aerial views showing the slow filling of the site with water. Terry also looks at Anglian Water's fish hatching site at Horn Mill.
