Description

We see views of Chinatown in Liverpool. David Yip is seen walking along Liverpool dock where he introduces the history of the local Chinese community talking about the sailors that visited the city during the nineteenth century. He is then seen on Pitt Street, an early site for settlers which was bombed during the Second World War. Next we see the modern Chinatown on Nelson Street and Yip walks past Great George Square to visit a derelict boarding house for seamen known locally as No. 10. After inspecting the interior of No.10 Yip talks to Kenneth Lo who was attached to the Chinese consulate and in Liverpool during the war. Yip next visits the Chinese Freemason's Society in the city and then we see inside the kitchen of a Chinese restaurant. Yip talks to Jack Yiu (?) about the history of local restaurants and then visits a Chinese supermarket where he talks to the owner David Lo. Yip then meets a group of young people and talks to them about their lives before visiting a video shop where he interviews the owner Kenny Chan and sees some of the films on offer. We then see activities inside a local martial arts class and the Wah Sing community centre. Yip talks to Brian Wang, the Community Liaison Officer about future plans for the community centre. Yip ends his report by walking through a Liverpool cemetery.
