Description

The film begins with views over the capital city Tunis. There are shots of ancient ruins that made up the city of Carthage and tourists walking around them. The surviving ruins are Roman and include the burial site of sacrificed children. Next we see the exterior and interior of Bardo Museum which has displays of mosaic tiles on the floors, ceilings and walls. There are shots of a Roman aqueduct at Zaghouan and a Roman Coliseum at El Jem and views of cactus plants with distant views of camels. After this the film looks at the local Berber population. We then see the Hanafi Mosque of Bourguiba and then visit the city of Kairouan where we see another mosque and street scenes which include stalls and shops selling carpets, leather goods and brass objects. In Nabeul the processes of making decorative pottery are shown including throwing, drying and decorating. We also see rush mats and embroidery work being carried out. There is a weekly market selling food, clothing and livestock. The fishing industry of Tunisia is represented by Mahdia showing the fishermen and the boats. Lastly there is a look at the growing tourism of the country in Hammamet and Monastir with their hotels and beaches.
