The plot concerns the testing of a new wonder fuel for use in steam locomotives that mixes coal with aluminium (hence the title). The fuel is tested on an express running north on the Great Central from Nottingham Victoria station. Villains conspire to blow up the train which will be blamed on a failure of the new fuel. A car chase from the Lace Market in Nottingham ends at an airfield (probably Tollerton) where the villains attempt a getaway by plane. The train is seen at Nottingham Victoria and is then filmed going under a bridge at Perry Road in Sherwood and then crossing a viaduct at Bulwell before disaster strikes as it reaches a signal box at Bagthorpe. During the car chase we see shots of Calverton including a ford.
