We first see the exterior of John Wood Infants School at Cannock, including children and teachers. A shot of a poster about the May Day celebration is next, which explains that the event commemorates the 'Coronation of her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II' and that the May Queen is Jacqueline Gaze. We then see crowds of children sitting in a circle, the delivery of some speeches and the school's pianist. A procession of very smartly dressed children then parade around the circle and once they have settled a boy crowns the May Queen. The children then act out the various countries of the Commonwealth using flags, fancy dress and country dancing. The main section of the film is Maypole dancing (a group of boys have to hold the pole upright during the dance) and it ends with a shot of a group of women (teachers?) presenting an older man with a bouquet of flowers.
