Wing Commander Guy Gibson (1918 - 1944) was the first commanding officer of the Royal Air Force's 617 Squadron, which he led in the Dam Busters raid (Operation Chastise) in 1943.
Arthur Cyril Ball was the commander of the Nottingham Air Training Corps and the younger brother of Albert Ball V.C. who was killed in action in 1917.
