A white man applied for the same gardening job twice - once using his own name and then using an ‘Asian’ sounding name. The application with the false name led to an appointment. Soulsby said that they were following Section 38 of the Race Relations Act which was designd to encourage minority groups. However they have been advised that it might be illegal.
