We begin with aerial views of Redditch. John Worth, the chief executive of Redditch Borough Council is interviewed and talks about the benefits of living in Redditch. Cutaway shots during the interview show housing and industry in the town. Views of Hymatic and Pembro Engineering,.. We are introduced to a young couple, Gary and Stella Simpson, who are then shown at various sites in the town beginning at Bordesley Abbey. We then visit St Stephens Church where Rev. David Salt talks Gary and Stella. They then visit the Kingfisher shopping centre where they meet the manager, see inside and are then shown around Tesco and British Home Stores. After views of the open air market we see needle making at Needle Industries Ltd and fish hooks being produced at A.E. Partridge and Sons. The manager is interviewed as is the manager of Springmasters where see springs being produced.
Other modern businesses are visited: Leabond, an engineering firm which incorporates Topsy who make pet cages and views of Midland Control Systems. We then see various housing developments including the Batchley estate, Crabbs Cross and Oakenshaw followed by the YMCA. We then visit Dingleside School where the head teacher is interviewed and we see inside the library. Next we see the facilities at Redditch College where principal Ken Porter is interviewed. We then see more buildings: the public library, Post Office, West Mercia Police HQ, magistrates court, fire station, local newspaper offices, a home for the elderly, Southcrest Hotel, Abbey Stadium and Leys High School, the Classic Cinema, Palace Theatre, Arrow Valley Park and the Town Hall where Gary and Stella meet the mayor. Finally we see the visit by Queen Elizabeth II to the town in July 1983 where she opened the needle museum.
