Description

John Swallow introduces the programme with a piece to camera in Birmingham city centre and vox pops with Brummies about their city. He then links a selection of his own typically light-hearted news reports from the 1960s onwards. These reports were originally broadcast on either ATV Today or Central News. On screen dates are used (apart from short clips used in a montage). We see: Jeremy Bond from Shirley driving his Noddy car (18 April 1983); JS wearing shorts (8 June 1982); JS dressed as a policeman but wearing tights (5 October 1966 - this is actually a repeat date the first broadcast of this item which was a comment on Birmingham police wanting tapered trousers was 4 May 1966); JS selling pound notes for 17/6 (7 July 1966); Decoy ducks (1 October 1984); interviewing a woman who has a stuffed dog (29 January 1976); a tree climbing dog (18 December 1986); JS in a Jacuzzi which fills up with foam (17 September 1975); ballet dancing firemen (21 January 1985); JS interviewing Morecambe and Wise (26 December 1966); JS eating fish and chips on a bus (7 November 1972); Wild West shootout story (1 October 1986); montage of Swallow being bitten by a fox, trodden on by deer, chewed by a dog, hit by a boxer, dropping a glass and jumping into a canal; JS visiting public toilets (4 November 1987); people falling on slippery pavements on Fletcher's Walk in Birmingham (15 January 1987).
