The opening section shows views of Spondon in Derby including the junction of Moor Street and Sitwell Street and shop fronts including the H & B Stores. We then see a boy playing with a cat followed by two boys playing in a meadow and then picking fruit. A group sitting outside a hotel/pub pose for the camera with drinks. We then see shots taken of a visit by Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh to Derby on 14 May 1964. The Duke is seen at Derby railway station and then meeting staff outside the locomotive works (some shots are quite dark and hard to make out). We then see establishing shots of the Railway Technical Centre on London Road in Derby (British Railways Research Department) - the Duke opened this building although he is not seen. Next we see a boy riding a bicycle on a suburban street and stopping on the driveway of a house. We then see the boy with a group of older women on a visit to Old Market Square in Nottingham. After another brief shot of the boy on his bike we see views taken from a car travelling north on the M6 motorway passing junctions 23, 25 (Wigan) and Charnock Richard services before leaving at junction 29. Shots of the film maker's family on a windswept beach follows. The reel ends with further views of Spondon including Sitwell Street, the Georgian house known as the Homestead and an exterior view of Spondon Library.
