Opening section shows the launching of a large ship at Wallsend on Tyneside (this is the Bergensfjord made by Swan, Hunter & Wigham Richardson). We then see Ruston diesel marine engines being winched into position for fitting in the Scillonian (this ship was constructed by Thornycroft of Southampton). We then see a River Thames passenger boat 'Shearwater' passing the camera in London followed by views on board another ship called the Luke Thomas. We then cut to a ship yard and see the launch of the Kirkham Abbey (built by Austin & Pickersgill of Sunderland and registered in Goole).
We then see a gas turbine arriving on a lorry and being manoeuvred into position in a factory (the delivery lorry is from E.R. Wright and Sons of Lincoln). (The remainder of the reel is b/w). We see views of an official tour of the Ruston factory at Lincoln including men examining diesel engines, turbines and a diesel shunting locomotive in the yard. A series of still photographs showing applications of Ruston engines follows. After brief views at a pumping station we cut to an agricultural show (likely to be the 1954 Royal Show at Windsor) where the Ruston trade stand is prominent. A lorry promoting Workman Reed and Co Ltd (Hewish nr Bristol) also appears. We then see cement mixers lined up in a works yard, views of a stone quarry, a reservoir, another trade show with Ruston display (this time indoors), brief views of molten metal probably in a blast furnace, and river freight boats including the Regent Swift transporting oil followed by a brief view of the Tower of London and then a final shot of the River Mersey.
