Description

Views of the consecration of Coventry Cathedral which took place on 25 May 1962 in the presence of the Archbishop of Canterbury Dr Michael Ramsey, Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Margaret. Views of rehearsals including an organist playing and shots of the Bishop of Coventry Cuthbert Bardsley. We then see preparations for the opening including shots of the architect Basil Spence inside the building as finishing touches are made. A short section shows some crowds gathered in the old cathedral on the day the foundation stone was unveiled for the new building (on 23 March 1956). Further unedited views of stages in the construction follow. There are also brief views of a newly married couple at the cathedral.
