Description

The film opens with comments from Jack Ashley MP (Labour Stoke on Trent South) about Rosemary Fox who runs a campaign fighting for compensation for children who have been damaged by vaccinations. Her story begins in Ireland (family photos are shown) and she went on to have three daughters. Her middle daughter, Helen became ill after receiving a vaccination which led to life changing learning difficulties. Doctors did not believe Mrs Fox who blamed the vaccination for her daughter’s condition but a specialist eventually confirmed it. She talks about her feelings and her decision to fight for her case. Her husbands, David Fox also talks about the difficulties they have faced over the years. Mrs Fox complained that other countries had compensation schemes but the UK did not. We see newspaper articles, family photographs and a b/w still of early supporter Barbara Castle MP. We also see Rosemary at home at Shipston on Stour.

Exterior shots of the House of Parliament and the headquarters of the Department of Health. Library interview with Rosemary Fox from ATV Today in June 1977. Lord Pearson’s report of 1978 supported the case for compensation providing a boost for her campaign. Library shots from ATV Today in May 1978 showing Rosemary with Helen Fox and a further interview. The Vaccine Damage Payment Act of 1979 offered £10,000 to the most severely disabled children. However the £10,000 was treated as savings which then blocks some social security payments. Rosemary Fox continues to fight her case spurred on by the fact that the government admits the damage done by some vaccinations but denies it in open court preventing further compensation. We also see Rosemary chatting to Robert Lee who is a lecturer in law and visiting the Houses of Parliament to talk to Jack Ashley MP who is another supporter. Finally we see Rosemary at home with her daughter Helen.
