Description

In the Vale of Evesham (between Evesham and Pershore according to the commentary) we see plums growing in an orchard, being harvested by hand and transported to market by horse drawn cart. The film refers to the National Mark scheme in which plums are graded to ensure consistent quality. We see the grading process taking place both in the orchard and in a factory where women stand at a conveyor belt. The film also shows a road-side fruit stall in the Pershore area, an auction of plums, plums on sale in Covent Garden market in London and a demonstration of home bottling of plums.
