A new housing development has been proposed at Lawley Common, a green field site on the edge of Telford. The plan is the final part of the original scheme for Telford New Town. People living near to the site are against the proposal. Both sides of the argument are interviewed.
The opening shots are cut to 'Big Yellow Taxi' by Joni Mitchell and show construction work in Telford; the Cascades Shopping Centre; car parks; traffic; and Telford New Town.
Interview with Sue Clifford of the 'Common Ground' group that encourages people to stand up to developers.
We see tracking shots past office buildings in Telford and Telford shopping centre.
Next we see the open space of Lawley Common.
Several members of the Lawley Action Group are interviewed: Harry Nelson and his wife Elizabeth Nelson; Eileen Taylor; Chris Oakey; and Peter Bagnall.
Representing the other side of the argument we hear from: Martin White, Chief Planning Officer for the Telford Development Corporation; and Michael Law, Planning Officer for Shropshire County Council.
We also see shots of Lawley village; construction work on housing in the Telford area; Lawley Church; b/w archive of Telford in the 1960s (looks like ATV news); the pedestrianised Telford town centre; modern houses in Telford; and a protest march against the plans.
