Mute shots showing exteriors of cafes and views of signs contrasted with an out-of-town hotel where inside we see elaborate meals being prepared at the table. At a hotel Bob Gillman talks to the manager about the number of business lunches they serve each day at 25 to 30 shillings a head. View of Lyons café. Jenny Martin talks to the manager about their range of food and we see mute shots of Jenny trying out the self service cafeteria. We then see factory workers eating sandwiches and a group of men leaving a factory. Inside a works canteen (may be Rubery Owen at Darlaston as one of their vans is seen outside) we see men being served food from a hatch. Bob Gillman interviews the canteen supervisor Mrs Jones about the various food on offer and the prices. Jenny Martin talks to workers about the standard of food including a man who despite visiting the canteen for ten years brings his own billy can and tells Jenny that he "wouldn't give the food to a dog".
