Description

Includes street scenes, flags as well as the retiring mayor (Alderman C. Johnson) arriving at Guildhall in a Rolls Royce. He oversees the nomination of the new mayor in the Council Chamber. In the Robing Room the retiring mayor invests the new one with his robes and chain of office. The new mayor, Alderman C. R. Bates takes his place in the mayoral chair and addresses those present. The retiring mayor is thanked by the council. The mayoress is shown wearing her chain of office.

Notes

The film was shot by the Derby Education Committee for screening in schools in the town. Newspaper reports stated that it was the first time the ceremony had been filmed.
