Description

We see views of a prototype Lucas electric taxi leaving Heathrow Airport and driving along the M4 motorway before eventually arriving at the Dorchester Hotel in London. We then see a demonstration of the removal of the battery pack and the vehicle's turning circle which is within the regulations required for taxis in London. The General Manager of Lucas Special Products, Geoff Harding talks about how they have designed a vehicle that is cheaper to run and requires less maintenance than a diesel taxi. We then see a Lucas electric bus that is in use in Manchester arriving at Piccadilly station and then being put on charge inside the depot. We then move onto views of Bedford vans operated by the Post Office that have Lucas electric power. Both Royal Mail and GPO vans are shown as they have a different payload requirement. Vox pops with bus passengers and battery vehicle drivers offering praise follow. Next we see the Lucas Pullman which is a battery powered crew bus. It is shown transporting an airline crew to their plane. Finally we see more views of the battery taxi operating on the streets of London.
