Description

Mute shots of men leaving a pub. Vox pops with businessmen in a hotel bar about night-life in Birmingham (the interviewer may be Kenneth Horne). Most are dismissive of the city as a place to entertain business customers. Lionel Hampden interviews the owner of a private club about their clientele and then talks to customers again about the lack of night-life in the Midlands. We then see a cabaret club in Edgbaston where compere Roy Edwards introduces a comedian who performs a cowboy routine which includes firing a gun and female jazz singer. Next in Stratford upon Avon Lionel talks to members of the Royal Shakespeare Company about the availability of after theatre drinking and night-life. Lionel talks to Diana Rigg, Bill Travers, Tony Jay, and Paul Hardwick. He also talks to the pub landlord about serving food and the licensing laws. We then see an establishing shot of a pub called the Duke of Marlborough. Inside (or may me elsewhere) we see a barman shaking cocktails. This is followed by customers walking down the steps of an Egyptian themed nightclub, views of ten pin bowling at a Top Rank alley, brief shots of a woman dancing the twist, diners in a restaurant (Chateau de l'Aperifit on Wilford Lane at West Bridgford) and more dancing with smooching couples. Finally we visit a strip club (posters for dancer Lorraine Burnett). Women on stage dance in bikinis with ostrich feathers.
