Description

The opening sections are mute and show activities on the base including an aircraft on the tarmac, personnel playing baseball and ten pin bowling. Also shots of the base supermarket, American cars, children in the base school and views inside the chapel. We also see exterior shots of housing on the base and American children boarding a bus. The remainder of the reel is a series of interviews by Richard Thompson with USAF personnel including the base chaplain (Father Butler) and several service men and their wives. They are all asked about how they spend their spare time, the pace of life, the weather and their thoughts about living in Britain and what they miss from America. The final sound section is a series of vox pops on the street in Lutterworth with local people who are asked their views on the Americans that live nearby. The question of relationships between the American servicemen and local women is also raised. We end with further mute shots of ground crew working on an aircraft (USAF Douglas B66 bomber).
