Description

The news reel is divided into 5 parts, each with its own inter- title. Firstly there is the 'Opening of the Band Stand West Park 9 May 1936'. This includes scenes of a parade through Long Eaton, speeches from dignitaries standing on the band stand, crowds at West Park and a band playing. Following the title 'A Few Moments in a Long Eaton Lace Factory' we see the interior of a factory and the lace making machines in operation. We are also shown hand sewing repairs being made to the lace. The next sequence features a fashion show in colour filmed on an outdoor roof garden in which several women walk towards the camera modelling top coats and dresses. After this there is a section entitled 'Junior Choir Outing to Skegness 27.8.1936'. This includes scenes of children boarding the bus (lots of pushing and shoving) and arriving at Long Eaton railway station. We see the interior of the railway carriage and views from the train. Some of the footage of the children in Skegness is in colour and includes scenes of a boating lake and the sea and beach. The film ends with a sequence 'Long Eaton Roses' showing colour views of rose bushes in a park and garden in Long Eaton.
