Description

Scenes of women speaking at a meeting inter-cut with shots of a march in support of the striking miners passing through Nottingham city centre. Views of the Cotgrave women’s support group and the Creswell Women’s Action Group collecting supplies for distribution to those on strike, and views inside a canteen where food is produced plus views of women on a picket line. There are interviews with women (some off-camera) who talk about the strike and the role of women. Aspects covered include the closure of pits in Derbyshire (such as Langwith) prior to the strike; the things women can do to help in the strike, the suspicion of the police including the story of officers who impersonated striking miners, and talk about why there are not more men in Nottinghamshire out on strike. We also see women on a stall distributing literature and collecting money, and a woman recites a poem about her impressions of the picket line at Silverhill Colliery. The final section is a montage of marching scenes cut with a song by Jo Frazer.
