Description

The reel opens with a gathering of people at a football ground in Rocester. The carnival queen kicks off a match. We then see some hard to make out scenes involving an 'It's a Knockout' type of game. The next section shows a pram race (including adults dressed as 'babies'). This is followed by another football match between a team of women against a team of men dressed in drag. We then see children wearing fancy dress and a carnival parade including girls marching and various floats. In a field next to the JCB factory in Rocester the carnival continues with more demonstrations of marching by costumed children. After an inter-title 'Uttoxeter Carnival' we see similar scenes of a carnival parade in the neighbouring Staffordshire town. Decorated floats, marching bands and a group of Morris men pass through the centre of Uttoxeter. We also see some of the same people as appeared at the Rocester carnival including the Rocester Toppers marching group.
