In the studio Roy Hudd chats to a group of former staff from Chatsworth House in Derbyshire about what life was like 'Upstairs Downstairs'. We see b/w archive film of the exterior of the house and grounds and a series of stills showing the Cavendish family and the staff. Roy Hudd performs 'The Stately Homes of England' written by Noel Coward. Other subjects covered include memories of a visit by the American President John Kennedy to Chatsworth to see the grave of his sister Kathleen who had married into the Cavendish family. B/w archive film of Kennedy with Harold Macmillan and several stills of John and Kathleen Kennedy are shown. We also have an excerpt from a Pathe Gazette item showing hare coursing at Chatsworth in 1921. Hudd ends the programme by singing 'Oh Lady Be Good' made famous by Fred Astaire following a chat about his sister Adele (who also married into the Cavendish family).
