Zia Mohyeddin introduces four items on today's programme:
1. Hilary Minster interviews Tesh Kotecha in the studio. Kotecha works for the Marcus Garvey Agency for Community Employment and Training Ltd which is also known as the Community Employment and Training Agency (CETA). It is a Nottingham based organisation that is studying the problems and constraints ethnic businesses face in the city of Nottingham. He discusses a survey that is currently being carried out.
2. In a film report Vera Gilbert visits the Caribana Restaurant and Wine Bar in West Bromwich. Diners are seen eating in the restaurant, drinkers can be seen in the wine bar and various West Indian dishes are served to customers.
Interviews with Mervin Spence, proprietor; Joyce Spence, co-owner and chef Gairy Flash about the business that has been open for seven months. Gairy describes a typical dish - Lobster Ochi Rios.
3. Dancer Unnikrishnan who is spending a year in Britain with the Academy of Indian Dance performs a piece entitled 'Lord of the Dance' in the studio.
4. Vera Gilbert interviews Bill Morris in the studio. Morris is the Deputy General Secretary Designate of the Transport and General Workers Union (TGWU). He describes his experiences as an immigrant to Britain in the 1950s, the challenges he has faced in becoming a trade union official and issues surrounding ethnic minority workers and the trade union movement.
