In the studio Zia Mohyeddin introduces a filmed item about the Handsworth based photographers Derek Bishton and John Reardon. Reporter Hilary Minster talks to the pair about their local photography projects which includes 'Home Front' currently on display at the Triangle Gallery. We see an extract from a June 1980 ATV Today item showing Bishton and Reardon when they were involved with the 'Handsworth Self Portrait' project to capture street portraits of local residents. Back in the studio there is a musical interlude from flute player Clive Bell. The final item is a studio debate about the new Police and Criminal Evidence Bill between Mark Phillips of the Handsworth Law Centre and Cecil Gutzmore, who is the secretary of a campaign against the bill. Their discussion, which includes the controversial proposal to hold suspects for 96 hours without charging them, is chaired by Mita Hackett.
