Description

Programme introduced by Zia Mohyeddin. The first item is a film report from Hilary Minster where he meets Bridgette Berry from Camberwell. Bridgette is the only black circus performer taking part in a training course with Gerry Cottle’s circus. We see young performers practising their skills including Bridgette on the trapeze at the circus during a show at East Ham. Minster talks to Bridgette about her audition and to Gerry Cottle about his training programme which is self funded after he was turned down by the Arts Council.

Next on film Paula Ahluwalia interviews the blind writer Ved Mehta who is from India. Mehta talks about his upbringing and work and in particular his series of memoires. Finally in the studio there is a performance from the singer Madeline Bell who sings ‘On Broadway’ and then talks to Vera Gilbert about her career. She discusses her gospel roots, session singer work and current shows with James Last.
