Description

In the studio Zia Mohyeddin introduces a film report about the current boom in black theatre in London. He sets up the piece by pointing out comments that white critics often ignore black plays unless they are angry pieces about racism. Hilary Minster is the reporter in London and his first stop is at the Triangle Theatre on Kilburn Road. After an establishing shot we see an extract from ‘Playboy of the West Indies’ by Mustapha Matura featuring Jackie De Peza, Jim Findley and Joy Richardson. Mustapha Matura is interviewed about the work which is an adaptation of the play ‘Playboy of the Western World’. Next at the Theatre Royal, Stratford East we see rehearsals for ‘Two Can Play’ which is written by Trevor Rhone. Acting in the play are Alastair Bain and Corin Skinner Carter. Minster talks to director Anton Phillips. We then see an exterior shot of the Theatre Royal including a poster for El Dorado by Michael Abbensetts. This is followed by an extract from the play featuring Don Warrington and Faith Brook and then Minster talks to Abbensetts about his work.
