The programme is introduced on location by Tony Francis who also provides links for the items. The first report from Ann Edwards looks at the problem caused to the environment by the invasive plant species the hogweed. Ann is shown the plants growing in tributaries of the River Severn, including the Carno Brook at Caersws in Mid Wales, by Alun Jones who talks about ways in which the plant can be killed off before it takes over. She then meets Tom Hensford who describes how he was ill after getting the plant’s sap on his skin when he attempted to remove hogweed from his garden. Despite the risks some garden centres are selling the plant and Ann then talks to Edward Biggott who runs a business at Nesscliffe in Shropshire which sells all types of plant including hogweed. He talks about the warnings he gives to customers.
The remainder of the programme is taken up with a special feature in which countryman Fred J. Taylor travels to the frozen Lake Athabasca in Alberta, Canada via an ice road with champion angler Ian Heaps to fish for pike. Local guides show how to cut holes in the ice and the best way to catch the fish. During their trip they also visit Fort Chipewyan, travel by snow ski and eat moose meat cooked on a camp fire.
