Stock footage shot of an animated atomic explosion and mushroom cloud over a populated area. The following exercise takes place on the disused Darley Moor Airfield near Ashbourne in Derbyshire. Shots of boys lying underneath debris, one boy has facial wounds. A man hangs out of an upstairs window. Wardens leave Post Control and assess structural integrity of buildings. One official also places a sign on the ground to indicate where the Control Point is. Interior shots of the Headquarters with signals operators taking down notes, notes are past to relevant officials who discuss courses of action with each other using a wall map.
A despatch rider passes a message to the pilot of an Auster light aircraft which takes off. We then see a convoy of Derby Civil Defence vehicles and views inside a mobile operations truck. Wardens help the injured boys (from earlier) assessing wounds and helping them to safety. There are also shots of Royal Signals radio operators. We then see the treatment centre being set up and the wounded being removed into ambulances. Nurses treat and dress various injuries (hand and facial injuries predominantly). There are further shots of rescue showing more seriously injured stretcher cases. We see an outdoor field kitchen being set up. The injured are hoisted down from the tops of buildings on stretchers using ropes. The reel ends with shots of food being served to personnel at the outdoor kitchen.
